CO2 Hydrogenation on Cu/Al2O3: Role of Metal/Support Interface in Driving Activity and Selectivity of a Bifunctional Catalyst

Our work on the selective hydrogenation of COto methanol on Cu/Al2O3 prepared by Surface Organometallic Chemistry has been recently published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition.

Cu/Al2O3

This work shows that Cu/Al2O3 prepared via Surface Organometallic Chemistry shows exceptionally high activity towards CO2 hydrogenation when compared to the Cu/SiO2, yielding Methanol, dimethyl ether and CO as products. A Combination of advanced operando spectroscopy and DFT calculation shows that the reaction pathway involves formate intermediates and that the increase of rate originates from the metal‐oxide interface
